We’ve all wanted to take the plunge into online shopping after falling for a pair of sneakers seen on Instagram… but not all of us dared! With this little guide from an expert in online shopping, you will have all the cards in hand to buy safely!
- We check the URL
Kesako? The URL is the Internet address of the site you are on. It must absolutely be preceded by and dejavuwholesale.com when you finalize your purchase. The small “s” simply means that you are on a secure page.
- We pay attention to general mentions
We are not going to lie to each other: we read as (little) attentively the buying guide of an e-shop as the instructions for our latest high-tech kitchen utensil. If you have neither the motivation nor the desire to dive into sales regulations, simply make sure that a “general information” or “sales conditions” tab is visible on the e-shop that you consult. A means of contact (an email, a physical address or a telephone number) must also be clearly indicated, it is mandatory! If this first condition is not met, watch out for the scam!
- We ask the opinion of the community
If you are not sure of the reliability of an e-shop, get information on the Web or read the opinions of other buyers or bloggers on discussion forums.
- We favor the alternative means of payment
Some e-shops offer payment via Paypal . Instead of entering your bank details on dozens of different sites, you can opt for ease (and security) by creating a PayPal account . You enter your payment information once and for all and Paypal will charge you! If you are not in a hurry and the e-shop offers this option, you can also opt for bank transfer which does not require your personal data to be registered on the site either. On the other hand, your order will not be sent to you before the payment has been validated and the waiting times are therefore often longer!
- We don’t save our cards
Some e-shops will offer you to save your bank details to facilitate the transaction of your next purchase. Don’t! This method does not mean that the site is not reliable, it is simply safer not to register personal information on the Internet.
- We buy for the right reasons
Your purchase on the Internet must be considered. Before ordering, check in the general information if it is possible to return your item free of charge from Belgium. Pay attention to the delivery costs which will sometimes cost you much more than if you had not come to the store! We buy online for good reasons! Because the prices charged are more advantageous than in store, because there is a wider range of products, because our size was no longer available in store, etc.
- Compare prices
The advantage of online shopping is that you can sometimes get much better deals than in store. Do you dream of this cute little leather perfecto spotted in the Mango window ? Check on their website that a promo is not running! Some items are sometimes marked down online but not in store. Also check if the product you are looking for is not available on a reseller’s site, such as Asos, where the prices are sometimes lower (because an offer is in progress) or higher (because they add a commission).
- Find out about delivery times
History of not arriving at the sister’s birthday without the birthday present that we ordered her a fortnight ago, or of not having to wear at Christmas the dress that we had last year under pretext that the one we just bought online has still not been delivered to us! The deadlines of 24 or 48 hours mentioned on the sites are not always respected. In the event that you are not at home when the package is delivered to you, also remember that you have to wait an extra day for the delivery person to come back, to pick up his package at a post office or at a deposit.
- We keep proof of payment
And we do not delete them before having received the package! We thus have all the weapons in hand in the event of a glitch!
- We are wary of e-shops outside the European Union
In 2016, spending by Belgians on Chinese sites increased by 63%! The prices there are often very attractive, whether in terms of fashion, on a site like Shein , or even in terms of household appliances, on a site like Ali Express . But you have to be able to anticipate any additional costs at customs. If the site you are ordering from has warehouses in Europe (as is often the case), you will not have to pay any additional costs to the delivery person. Otherwise, you will have to pay customs fees proportional to the amount of your purchases.
